Katmai is home to the coastal brown bear. There are actually 3 types of "brown bears"; the interior grizzly, the coastal brown bear, and the Kodiak. The differences are small, but it’s their diet that makes up the biggest difference. The interior grizzlies main food source is berries. During the spring they look for animal carcass’s that didn’t make it through the Alaskan winter, and if animals are sickly, they may chase them down for food. The coastal & Kodiak bears main food source is fish. And their well adapted at catching them too. The bears I was watching seemed to have no problem having their fill.
