On the Lookout My first trip to Alaska was in December. Why December? The river I’m at is the Chilkat River, and it is one of the last in Alaska to freeze over. This along with a late run of salmon upstream has been discovered by the Bald Eagles of North America. Along with myself and one fellow photographer, we had the place to ourselves.... Well almost. Nearly 800 eagles are also in the area. Overhead, I count 17 eagles in one tree. In front of me I hear the scream of one eagle stealing a salmon from another. The beauty, the solitude, and the nature of a wonderful state, Alaska, the last frontier.
