Awkwardly Beautiful Most people confuse this bird with the popular Flamingo, but this is a Roseatte Spoonbill. The "bill" is used like a shovel for digging underwater. I found this spoonbill, with a group of three others, off the center pike in "Ding" Darling Wildlife Refuge. The refuge is a winter haven for many shore birds. Variations of herons and egrets are plentiful here. These birds were aware of me, but not annoyed. I watched the four spoonbills for quite a while. And one by one, they flew off to another location.
