Flame Azalea Glows

Andrews Bald is a short hike from the Clingmans Dome parking lot in the Smoky Mountain National Park. Mid-Late June is the best time to see the flame azalea. The area is a ridge of the Clingmans Dome mountain. There is also a mix of Catawba Rhododendron mixed in, though not nearly as abundant as the flame azalea, but it makes for a great flora display. The azalea is known to mountain people as Wild Honeysuckle. Its colors range from red to white, but most is a burnt orange. Other locations that have good displays are Mile-High and Gregorys Bald
