Cable’s Mill This mill was run by John P. Cable. Built in the 1870’s, it was a larger mill than the "tub-mills" around the area, and served not only as a way to grind corn, but was also as a sawmill. Corn was a main component to life in the days of the early settler. It served as a ingredient in bread, mush, grits, hominy, and also as a part of moonshine. Now it used as a showplace in the Cades Cove Visitors Center to demonstrate the grinding of corn, and the technical engineering that it took to build and run a sawmill / gristmill in the 1800’s.
